Goal Bound Sports Initiative is training coaches for the GirlsPlay Programme coming up in early 2024

GirlsPlay programme will use football and refereeing to teach secondary school girls about life, entrepreneurship and public health. These skills will be imparted (on to the girls) using purposeful play and self-directed learning.

It was a three-day programme in Makurdi designed by Mimisen Calvin-Onwuka, Founder and Director of Goal Bound Sports Initiative in conjunction with Lou Crawford, Impact Team Head of Coaches Across Continents (CAC).

There were 12 coaches at the training conducted at the premises of Benue State University, Crawford joined via Google Meet with Calvin-Onwuka physically present to oversee the sessions – field and classroom.

Calvin-Onwuka, “The three days were spent training the coaches for when they go to the partner schools they are able to use the sports activities to teach the girls how to be emotionally and physically safe. To make the training fun and enticing enough for the girls to feel free to ask questions and make conversations.”
